Frequently Asked Questions

Tap a question to expand it. Everything families ask us before starting — including what happens to your recordings and photos once you send them to us.

Getting started

How do I know this is legit? I've never heard of you before.

Fair question — worth asking about any company you haven't heard of. Two things you can check for yourself rather than take our word for: a 12-month completion guarantee (full refund if your book isn't printed within 12 months of purchase), and every recording is stored on secure infrastructure with a ten-year guarantee, so the QR codes in your book keep working even in the unlikely event this company doesn't. We're a young UK company — we're not going to claim a track record we don't have yet. If you'd rather talk it through with a person before sending anything, email us and you'll get a real reply, not a script.

How does it actually work?

You choose an edition and tell us whose story it is. They respond to fourteen chapters of questions at their own pace, over two to four weeks — by speaking, by typing, or by handing over recordings they already have. We shape everything into a narrative. You and they approve every chapter before anything is printed. Then it arrives, hardback, with a QR code on each page that plays their actual voice.

Do they need to download an app or create an account?

No. They use a secure link we send them — no app, no password to remember, no account setup.

What if they don't want to speak into a phone?

That's fine — voice, typing, and uploading existing recordings are all treated as equally valid ways to answer. Most people mix all three across the fourteen chapters.

Can we use recordings we already have?

Yes — and this is genuinely unusual in this category. Old voicemails, a birthday video on someone's phone, a cassette tape, a voice note from years ago: send us what exists and we build the book around it, alongside anything new they record.

What if the person has already passed away?

We can still build their book, entirely from what the family already has of them. See our Memorial editions for how this works.

The book itself

What's the QR code, and how does it actually work?

Every chapter has a small QR code printed on the page. Scan it with any phone camera and it plays the original recording of that story — their real voice, not a summary of it. The codes point to secure, permanent storage that we guarantee for at least ten years, so they keep working long after the book is printed — you're never relying on a personal device, an old phone, or a backup that might not survive.

How many copies do we get, and can we order more?

Memory includes 1 copy, Heritage includes 3, Legacy includes 5. Each is designed around a typical family size — Heritage and Legacy exist specifically so siblings don't have to share or photocopy one original.

Can we see it before it's printed?

Yes. You and the storyteller approve every chapter as it's written, then receive a full PDF proof of the finished book for a final check before anything goes to the printer.

Timing, guarantee & delivery

How long does it take?

Standard timeline is two to four weeks from when the storyteller starts, depending on their pace. Express delivery (+£15) cuts print and shipping to around a week once the book is finalised. Memorial editions are fast-tracked by default, since they're often tied to a funeral or memorial date.

What if it isn't ready in time?

We guarantee your book will be printed within 12 months of purchase, or you get a full refund — no admin, no argument.

Where do you print and ship?

Everything is printed and shipped within the UK.

Pricing

Is this a subscription?

No. You pay once. There's no renewal, no annual charge, and no ongoing relationship required after your book arrives — unlike some competitors in this category who bill yearly.

What's Voicever?

An optional add-on (£59) that generates a full narration of the finished book in the storyteller's own voice, built from their recordings, delivered as an audio file you can keep and share. It's separate from the QR codes, which are included on every edition and always play their real, unedited recordings as-is.

We're exploring giving Voicever buyers the option of a second QR code on each chapter page — one for the original recording (as always, free), one for the narrated version — so both are available directly from the printed book, not just as a separate download. If that's something you'd want, let us know when you order; it helps us decide whether to build it.

Draft note for John: hold this wording off the live FAQ until Voicever's full-book fulfilment is actually confirmed end-to-end (currently blocked on an ElevenLabs plan upgrade) — see the marketing review, Finding 3. The second paragraph is a soft demand-test for the dual-QR idea, not a promise of a shipped feature — see backlog item B-ADD-16.

Your data & privacy

What happens to the recordings, photos and videos we send you?

They're used only to build your book. Audio and video are stored securely on Cloudflare R2 (EU-based infrastructure) so the QR codes in your printed book keep working — we keep them for at least ten years.

Do we get copies of our original recordings and photos back?

That's the plan for every order — everything you sent us, so you're never solely dependent on our storage. Right now that happens by request rather than an automatic download link: email us once your book is finished and we'll send everything over. Memorial Premium is the only edition that includes a physical copy (a USB drive) in the box as standard — sending a USB with every order isn't something we can do at these prices, so for every other edition it's a digital handover.

Draft note for John: this used to read as if an automatic download already existed — it doesn't yet (checked: only an admin-only JSON export exists, nothing customer-facing). Rewritten to describe the real, manual-for-now process honestly. See backlog item B-MKT-4 for building a real self-serve download link.
Who can access our recordings?

Only the small team producing your book. We don't sell your data, and we don't use your recordings to train AI models beyond generating the book and (if you order it) the Voicever narration you've paid for. Your printer only ever receives the finished print files — not your original recordings.

Can we ask you to delete our data?

Yes — contact us any time and we'll delete what you ask us to. One honest trade-off: deleting the audio behind a QR code will stop that code working in books already printed, so we'll always confirm with you before deleting anything a QR code depends on.

What about ordering a book for someone who's passed away?

We rely on the ordering family member's word that they have the right to use the recordings and photos they send us. If you have any doubt about who else in the family should be consulted, we'd always encourage having that conversation before you start.
